Training that supports quality residential care
Caregivers are the heart of every residential care home. Residents notice the difference when caregivers know how to help safely, communicate kindly, document accurately and respond calmly in an emergency. Good training also helps homes keep good caregivers, because people stay where they feel prepared and supported.
Care Home Association offers educational materials and information to support caregiver development and care home operations for homes across Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas.

Documentation
Writing clear, accurate daily notes and records, and knowing what to report.
Resident rights
Dignity, privacy, independence and choice in daily care.

Who the materials are for
- New caregivers — onboarding in their first weeks at the home
- Experienced caregivers — refreshers and reinforcement of good habits
- Owners and managers — building or strengthening an in-house training program
Signs your team could use more training
- New caregivers learn mostly by watching whoever is on shift
- Residents living with dementia are becoming harder to support
- Daily notes are vague, missing or inconsistent
- Staff aren’t sure what to do in a fall, fire or severe weather
- You want caregivers to feel more confident and stay longer
Building a simple training plan
A small residential care home doesn’t need a classroom to train well. Many homes follow a simple rhythm:
Orientation
Cover the home’s policies, resident rights, emergency plan and documentation before a new caregiver works alone.
Shadowing and practice
Pair new caregivers with experienced staff and use training materials to reinforce what they see.
Regular refreshers
Revisit key topics such as dementia care and infection prevention in short sessions throughout the year, and keep a record of training completed.
Ways care homes use training resources
Homes often use our materials during orientation, in short team huddles, alongside on-the-job shadowing, and as part of an annual refresher plan. Pair training with clear written policies so caregivers learn the same standards they are expected to follow. Looking for new caregivers? See the Caregiver Registry.
Texas has its own training and orientation requirements for assisted living staff. Our materials support caregiver development but do not replace required training. Confirm current requirements with Texas HHSC.
